Im back! well kinda, i though ild write alittle blog since i havnt in a while and i said i would...
So, where have i been? well ive been doing alot of stuff. That is it, goodbye, no go! jokes... or really?!
So other than normal activities like "working" & "hanging with the bros" ive been working again on my game im doing with a few people, not gana lie, its way way WAY away from being a "game" or being anything for that matter! but its a start!
So what is this game you speak of? well the idea is just another sandbox game, inspired by ALOT of games its basically designed like minecraft, BUT WAIT! DONT GO! ITS NOT MINECRAFT! I SWARE! Yes it may be inspired by minecraft (one of the games) but its NOTHING like it! the world is not all blocky and randomly gen'ed or anything like that.
So the game is called Project NovaLight (This is the project name and may change, although i really like the name "NovaLight" and "Project" makes it sound cool). So you are just a normal guy in this post-apocalyptic world, yes, its another post-apocalyptic game. The basic idea is that you have to survive like you would in real life so, health is food and water, and to do this you must scavenge the world!!!
As a sandbox game im wanting it so players can build there own bases, because, com'on, who doesnt like building your own hang out place, right? So starting in a bunker you expand with the things you find, you can make your bunker bigger, make new hallways and rooms, expand outside to make towers or a grate wall, fix up old trains or cars and use them for transport.
Things i want to implement are mining and fixing, so mine your way to other area's both hidden and/or bandit outposts and metro systems. Fix anything you find IF you have the parts, like an old train or use items to build your own style weapon! (by this i mean use anything as an attachment to a gun i.e some wood you found could be used for the stock or an old plastic bottle could be crafted and molded into a grenade launcher attachment for it)
The will be a story-line which would talk the player (if the player had all the parts of it) about an hour to do, but to do this you will need to piece together a mystery by collecting tapes. The story-line is simple and basic (but hopefully fun) and is just a kinda side quest kinda thing.
So lets talk entities! what is an entity? well its basically an NPC, if you dont know what that is its a person in the game you can interact with (talk to and stuff). There are currently 3 NPC types. Traders, Bandits & Mutants.
Traders are, well as you guessed traders, im wanting to implement a trade system (and still working on the ideas behind this) where you trade anything you have for what you want, hopefully giving the "oh do i trade my new silencer and muzzle flash ive spent hours collecting to craft or do i get this medi-pack and some food for the night" (Quote by Stephen, thank you Stephen!" experience.
Bandits are, again you guessed it bandits, these guys will not shoot on site but they WILL try and take your stuff! some features im wanting to implement with bandits is there own threat meter, by this i mean in a scenario where they are confronted by you (the player) and a bunch of mutants they will ignore you and attack the mutants as mutants are alot more badass then you! Another feature is the use of cut-scenes. I dont know about you but if im playing a REALLY good game that gets me into the story-line, cut-scenes just brakes that feeling, so all cut-scenes are ingame, and i dont mean like the ones in skyrim or fallout, the way i want mine to work is on movement! So say you come across some bandits and they say "give us all stuff" you can either
A) shoot the fuckers and start off a gun fight
B) run the fuck away and be there target practice for the day
C) give them some items and hope its enough (i will need to add another value system for this feature based of the value system used for trading) or
D) do jack shit and stand there like a plum, if you do this they will take your things and fuck off with them, hopefully making you (the player) say "WTF! I worked hard making that gun/finding that item!" and making you want to track them down and kill them! I am also wanting to give AI with weapons limited ammo, so if they run out, they fucking run out! if you kill them and take there ammo, you get what ever they had, so if they had 2 left, you get 2, if they have 23 left, you get 23!
And now for
Mutants, these things are inspired by the dog things in Metro 2033 & Last Light (another game inspired by) These things are bitches on there own and in numbers are like a wave of justin bieber fans!
I dont want a HUD (Heads Up Display - the thing you see on your screen like in halo this is the shield, gun, grenades & ammo counter and shit) So all text ingame and instructions i want to put into books! Although there are inventory screens, like your inventory and trading system and such.
Originally i wanted the world to be inf but that is both too much hassle and we already have to many games like that, so this world is just gana be fucking big! Maybe if i add multiplayer in it may be inf, who knows!
Well thats all the notes i can think of at the moment with out giving to much away, im using Unity4 for this project so im wanting to add in the use of the oculus rift with-in the game.
